How long can you keep eggs refrigerated???

I read somewhere that you can keep eggs at room temperature unless they've gotten wet. True? False?

I have heard if you don't wash them and the "bloom" stays on them that they will be fine in the fridge for a couple months. When mine get that old I use them for scrambled egg treats for the dogs or chickens.
