How long could you feed your livestock if the feed store closed tomorrow?

I buy my feed by the barrel and keep 4 barrels full at a time. But I like you have been wondering the same thing. So my plan is to plant half an acre of corn and other items I can store an feed thru next year and see how it goes. But if you dont have the space to plant feed, I have no solution.

My llama and goats are all self sustaining out in the pasture for the most part (I did a high quality over seed this spring so that pasture is rich) they could survive until at least winter and if it came to knowing I would not get feed, I could hand harvest the remaining few acres they are not grazing and get enough hay to coast until next spring and do it again...

As for the birds, well it depends upon how picky they want to be about eating, I can harvest more than enough lawn clippings and other misc green stuff for them to coast until winter without a problem...

I also know several local farmers, so I can always start buying grain/hay from them if it came to that...

Either way it would take a total collapse of everything for me to really get worried and not be able to head to Walmart or the local feed stores and pick up what I need... And if it gets to that point to be blunt feeding the animals isn't going to be my primary concern...

Not there yet, but my plan is to go the B2E route.

Paul Gautschi (sp?) feeds zero grain to his 30ish composters. Nothing but kitchen and garden/yard waste for them. But then he has the advantage of a year round garden with milder temps.

I'm hoping to make a deal with the local market and restaurants for their organic waste to go through the winter on as well. Been watching several vids on using the chickens as a compost factory using no grain and it looks very doable. Geof Lawton has a couple vids on his site and YT has some solid info about the B2E garden approach including one segment with Paul's ladies.

GiGo? How about a garbage in, high quality meat, eggs and compost out instead?.
