How long do chickens live?

I have a pet Barred Rock who was 5 years old in March. What is the average life span for a very pampered chick?

I have a very lucky Rhode Island Red hen for 10 yrs. and her sister so 2 at 10 yrs

My oldest here are 4 years and going strong

It says lifespan of a chicken is 14 years but i have heard of them reaching 17
