I'm relieved to report that my 4 week old Marans babies, who have been up and down on a bad health swing (upper respiratory issues first, now coccidiosis), seem to be bouncing back after treatment with Corid for coccidiosis. They are much more alert, eating happily, and drinking well after two days of treatment. However, their stool is still quite bloody. I know total recovery will take longer than two days, of course, but is there a timeline on how long I should expect to see bloody stools before feeling confident that they're out of the woods?

I had a chick that got coccicidiosis,I treated her,she got well in a little less than a week. Are you sure that is their problem?

Pretty positive. It's only been three days and she looks a lot better! Just concerned about that bloody stool.

Are you treating with Corid?

Yep! 3/4tsp per gallon, only water available.
May I suggest that you increase to 1.5 - 2 teaspoons per gallon? 3/4 teaspoon per gallon is for a "moderate" outbreak. If you're seeing blood, I would call that severe, so I would bump the dose up, then give this dose for 3-5 days.

Thank you for the suggestion! I will bump it up first thing tomorrow when I remix a batch.
Once you're finished with 3-5 days at the new level, give 1/3 teaspoon per gallon for 7-14 days. I know there are thousands of posts that say just five days, but both the FDA, the mfg, and FARAD recommend doing the additional days.

Alright, went ahead and upped it to 2tsp/1gal. Fingers crossed! They are definitely more alert and with it every day, but I still saw blood this morning. It's a cold day so I did lukewarm water to encourage them to drink a lot and quickly before it cools. :)
