I know my babies are only 2 days old but the mess and the poop :barnie

How many weeks/months so they need food and water available 24/7?

I should add, we do NOT want them for meat, just eggs and pets.

My ducks have food and water available 24x7. There are different opinions about this topic, in my experience ducks are much calmer and go into their house more willingly in the evening if they know that they have food and water available.
My duckhouse has two bedrooms and a larger dining/living room, so that food and water are separated from their sleeping areas. They make a mess in their living room, i have to hose it our every two weeks at least, but their bedrooms stay mostly clean and dry.
If they run out of water during the night, they make me aware of that very loudly, the protest QUACK from 15 ducks wakes me up at night…

Hi there. :frow

None of my birds really get feed and water 24/7... I use non light emitting heat sources... and they ALL sleep through the night. ;)

Here is an excellent resource for much info waterfowl related..

Please note is is important to use a feed formulated with enough niacin for ducklings.. such as Purina flock raiser (or others that say so).

Pics always welcome! :pop

Mine, even my adults, have food and water 24/7

However, for your brooder, you could used a tote to put the waterer in to contain the ducks splashing. Just make sure to put a grate of some sort above the floor to prevent the ducklings from getting to it.
