how long do eggs get fertalized after roo is gone ?

i have a hen and she was laying fertile eggs and our rooster got killed by an owl...how long can she lay fertalized eggs ? please help thanks

oh thank you ! our rooster was killed by an owl...still we do not know how it got in....and it was still in there eating on him when we went to feed that morning...... my poor hens was scared to death !

Set as many eggs as you can

I had a fox kill 5 ducks last month

ok i have a ? she has 10 eggs now...so will she con..to lay them after she starts setting ? and if so do i gather them or leave them for her to hatch ? i also candled a few of her eggs and they are fertile and one when i held it up and there was a chick moving in it.....so it might be one of her later eggs......but the other 3 i looked at had vein's and an eye i assume ? crazy as it sounds lol most people want all hens lol i hope there is aleast a few roo's to hatch and they look like mine that got killed but i also noticed that she only set's on it at night...we live in the central part of kentucky and as of right now our weather is in the upper 80's so either it's been warm enough that she only set's at night or she has not gone full broody yet...or she is just making me think she is lol idk !

She's not sitting the adequate amount of time. You'd be better served incubating them. I would also not count on fertility being very high after 10 days. You can't always know about such things.

thanks...at first she would stay on the nest nearly all day and come off maybe 2 time's at the most but after the rooster got killed she only set's at night and early morning.....and if i go in to check her eggs she will get on it after i walk out..idk about her lol i was hoping she would set and hatch them out but i guess it's just wishful thinking on my part....
