How long do eggs remain edible without refridgeration?

My girls have suddenly been "hiding" their eggs for 4 days now. It's been 85 degrees. Just found them today. Do you think they are safe to eat? They were hidden under some bushes so not out in the blazing sun, but still warm. Haven't been washed.

From what I have read here I guess they would be okay. Hubby says if they aren't we will clear the house out quick with the stink.

Probably just fine. When in doubt, break them one by one in a small bowl to check as you go.

In most of the world, eggs are never refrigerated.

They keep surprisingly long.. couple of weeks at room temp and a month or more refrigerated. Before refrigeration was common, farmers used to seal the eggs by dipping them in "egg-keep," which was sodium silicate... also known as water-glass. It's a clear gooey liquid that would seal up the pores in the egg and cause it to last much longer at room temperature.

About one day at my house (and we have to fight the squirrels for em)
