I just read a post where they only feed starter feed for two weeks. I just got 100pds of starter feed because I thought the price will be going up. Everything else is. I have RIR's they are 7 weeks old. I have 9 of them outside. But I also have 18 - 2 weeks old. Any help? Thanks

I feed starter/grower to point of lay then switch them over to a layer feed.....

I fed starter till about 6-8 weeks then switched to layer feed so i didnt have to buy a 3rd bag of starter. and could feed the same to all the girls (big and little) (dont have to fuss with to feeders, etc)

I feed starter for 6-8 weeks then mix starter with pellets to get them use to pellets then by weeks 8-10 take them off starter completetly.

not much, it's the protien level in the food. I have mine on 20%, but 18% is fine too.

What about if the chicks are free-ranging part of the time? Should they still eat starter that long?
