How long do I need to stabilize to set?

How long should I have the incubator turned on and stabilized before I set the eggs?

Usually they say at least 12 hours but up to 24. Good luck on your hatch!

I just set my first eggs on Saturday. I waited till it was stable for 12 hours. When I put the eggs in the temp went down. It took nearly 36 hours for it to go back up to temp. I don't know if that is normal or not. but that was my recent experience. I hope my eggs are ok. but will not know for awhile. Good luck with your hatch.

If this is a new bator, you might want to run it for a couple days to make sure there is no temp flux. I like to let them run up to three days - so I can check night temps also (if the room the bator is in has temp flux - your bator will also)


After you put your eggs into your warmed bator, the temp will go down as the eggs take on warmth. Depending upon how many eggs are placed in the bator, the time to return to correct temp may take a bit (if my bator is packed FULL - 46 eggs - it can take a full day, almost two before the temp is back up).

UGH! I can't get the humidity right. It's way too high! I have the incubator in a shower stall that doesn't get used. I also have my seedling plants growing in there for the vegetable garden. I'm sure the humidity is coming from the plants. I can't think of another place to set it up where the kids won't bump into it. This is really the only place. What to do???

Alright, I moved it to the garage. The humidity is coming down. Now to see about the temp.............

I have mine in a closet in the house.

Is your garage insulated? If not, you will have temp swings in the garage and that will cause temp flux in the bator.

I moved it to my bedroom closet.
