How long do Indian Runners take to hatch their eggs?

She is sitting on a nest amongst a growth of reeds on the edge of a large body of water in our back acre. The entire property is surrounded by a brick wall but coyotes have gotten in over the fence. Unfortunately, there isn't a lot we can do about it. However, the ducks have saved themselves many times by jumping in the pond so hopefully mom will teach the new ducks, if there are any, to do the same. In the meantime, even at this stage could we grab an egg when she is off and candle it? We would probably have to use our dingy to get to it. I was thinking if nothing has hatched by this Sunday we would just shoo her off and take the eggs. It would be well of 28 days by then.

Personally, I wouldn’t take her off the eggs. We hatched a couple batches that also said 28 days for our Pekin duck, these were hybrid eggs, not sure if that mattered. We did have to incubate, as our Goldie didn’t have any interested in sitting on hers. Ours didn’t begin to hatch until day 31 and finished by day 32. The second batch, only 2 hatched and I had honestly thought the entire batch had died and was planning on cleaning the incubator, as it was like day 34 or 35, as I was walking into my backyard I heard a little peep and heard it again and looked under the towel and sure enough one was hatching send right after him a second one. These two we kept and call, Frankie & Johnny, a popular restaurant in New Orleans, both have imprinted on me and my husband laughs at how they follow me around and will chase me during mating season to bite me ankles.

I would give it some more time. I have a couple of times like the one above where I incubated in an incubator and we were on day 30-32 and I thought eggs where dead and when I went to clear out the incubator poof there was a pip.

It wasn't as good as the last one which happened in January. I had eggs incubating for someone and I had lost all the eggs except one. I was certain this last one had died around day 26 but was going to let it sit in until the weekend. Well weekend got swamped with stuff and it was Monday before I could get to it. When I did POOF there was a peeping blinking bantam Australian Spotted Duckling looking at me that wasn't in the incubator the night before. We named it Zombie because it came to life out of a dead egg.

My runners are very broody. We had one sit and hatch 13 out of 14 eggs. She was a good mother. Not sure how you decided what day to start the count. She should have sat 24 hours before you count day one. My ducks tend to sit nights before they fully settle in. Those days don't seem to count towards the 28. Did you end up candleing?

I would let the Runner hatch them!

My Indian Runner went broody and wanted to raise babies. I gave her eggs from my older runner who isn't a good mom. She sat diligently on them and they have hatched. I gave her 5 eggs and all 5 have hatched and she is totally devoted to them. I would like people to know that you can get a broody runner and they can and will take care of their babies. Its been a week almost and she is the most dedicated Mom ever. She is taking wonderful care of them. I can't get near them easily. She tells them to go and eat and they stick to her like glue. She is constantly talking to them.
