How long do Production Red hens live?

Well in my experience chickens live around 7-10 years, (they free-range so that can change things), but I do feel chickens bred solely for egg production do have shortened life spans. Our production reds lived about 3-4 years, but they were already who knows how old when we got them. Our white leghorn lived about 5-6 years and we got her as a chick. It depends

My first batch of 12 (recently lost to 2 bobcats) chickens are reaching 20 months old. I found that the productivity is very poor, esp. for the east eggers. A friend of mine who raised chickens for 10 years told me that chickens after 3 years old are basically not laying at all...

I keep most of my birds until they die of old age, but some as sell as pets after they stop laying. Mine lay for between 2-5 years.
