How long do feed stores usually keep chicks?

I saw some americanas a few weeks ago but I can't get one until February, Got some traveling to do, vacation etc...

What do they do with the ones that are left over? The ones I saw were good sized and not very fluffy like little chicks I guess they were a month old?? anyway, what happens when they get too big for the store's brooder?

I know our feed stores up here start to sell them for cheap as they get older and often they will get sold. About 3 weeks is tops the feed stores up here keep them. And often, if it turns out they end up keeping them that long, they do not order as many the next year.
