How long do they need the heat lamp?

I wouldn't do it to my chicks either out there in the coldest weather, but i'm just stating they could survive without it.
No sense in spreading bad ideas.....don't think they could survive(let alone thirive) in most cases, even if they could maybe be ok, it's not a good idea.

Not day olds. If they are somewhere around 4 or so weeks, then it may be something. My chicks stay inside so even if I did take the heat ;lamp off when they are about 4 weeks,it more then likely would not bother them, unless I immediately took it away forever.

It wouldn't hurt if they were older then at the most 3 weeks and inside is what I probably should have said.

Chicks do not even need a heat lamp as long as there are other chicks in the area.if it is reasonably cold where they are placed,(Like 16F)or below, then I would consider it.I have heard of week old chicks outside 25 degrees,in a coop, all they had was eachothr.

I would add lots of hay and shavings for them to just cuddle into.

OP was talking about 2 week old chicks. There is a huge difference between fully feathered chicks that are 4 - 5 weeks old and 2 week old chicks. The issue here is that your statements, if taken at face value could lead a person who does not know how to brood chicks to attempt to brood hatchlings without heat, and end up killing them. Please do not give advice, unless you are very specific and know exactly what you are saying, and say exactly what you mean.

Your stuff is not adding up.
