Beginner's Question: If my hens (no rooster) how many days will unfertilzied eggs stay fresh (eatable) if not collected from the birds for a couple of days? Should the eggs be thrown out if they accumulate for two or three days? My guess the eggs would be ok for putting in the fridge after 3 days, but want to make sure so I don't poison myself or anyone else.

Anytime I neglect to collect for more than 2 days or I find a stray egg layed under the coop or in the garden, I just give them back to the girls. I either mix them up with food scraps from the house and garden or toss them into the "scratch" area where they get their daily scrath of cracked corn and oats. They LOVE raw egg and although I know they can become egg eaters, I've been doing this for months and they have yet to break and eat their own fresh layed eggs! But, I think that 2 or 3 days should be the max time for waiting to collect, especially if it has been warm out...

I would say unless you live were it is very hot, they are fine to eat, you can keep eggs on the counter for 5 or 6 days with no harm and they peel better if you want to hard boil them. but if it bothers you then feed them to your pets, dog, cat, chickens
