How long do we leave hatched chicks in the incubator?

While they CAN live for that long, it would be far beyond my personal comfort level.

I mean, my chicks are only 1-2 days old and they've already been making a tremendous mess of their starter feed, and eating a lot. Obviously they didn't realize they weren't supposed to be hungry yet...

Personally, I agree. I don't think I've ever left a chick in the bator longer than 12 hours and that was because it was hatched at night. I know that within a couple hours, (pretty much as soon as they find their feet and are up and running) mine are pecking at the crumbles, bedding and anything else they can...lol

I look at it the same way, they can, doesn't mean they should. I mean we can go how many days w/o eating and still live?? Doesn't mean I want to test the theory.

BTW, those poor babies locked down for 72 days. Sure hope they like eggs shells and water.
