this chicken, i’ll post a pic of when it first happened. i was dumb idk why i thought it was fine to have babies sleep with the adults outside.
im embarrassed and ugh. mistake after mistake.
then a hawk almost took one during the day bc at night, these now one month and the two month ones stay in their brooder without the light.
the injured, held down by the adult got it’s skin literally ripped off entirely.
the hawk came two weeks later and i showed the babies places to hide, but before that they found their own place thank god. my partner came in like i think a hawk took a baby bird. im like HELL NO, ran out back and checked my hiding spot(s) and remembered where they were catch shade and cool. and there she was thank god.
she was obv tryna fly away (hard to get a pic of it) bc the talon marks are under the wing. 3 bleeding marks. open wounds, bathed her, sprayed her, but he with the super injured bc athena (SUPER) injured was crying bad, pain? or loneliness???
i think loneliness. she hasn’t cried like that since she’s had her sister with her. but i’m sure she’s healed by now, and athena is doing a lot better.
the swollen spot even has hair fur fuzz whatever growing on it.
please tell me when you’d integrate her!
i let the littles the youngest roam a few hours throughout the day then put them back in the brooder. no more mistakes
&…. will her sisters remember her? she’s been inside about 2-3 weeks. been with her other injured sister for 8ish days now.
also, athena is the smaller one, obv. not getting enough sleep, her body is busy healing instead of growing. ugh no words can describe how horrid i feel.
