We're glad to have you.

Chickens can live up to around ten years. Of course, this is only true if they aren't slaughtered or attacked by predators, and don't contract a deadly disease.

Glad you joined us!

The average life span for a chicken is about 5-7 years. 10-12 years is not uncommon, and the record is 22 years.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. X2 on Wyandotte7's answer. Eight to ten years is about the most you can expect for a chicken raised in good conditions, although occasionally a chicken will live to be considerable older than that. The record life span for a chicken is 22 years. Please feel free to ask any other questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Do you have Light Brahmas?

X2 on the average of 5 to 7 years. Each bird will have their own longevity. However yes, some can live into their teens.

Great to have you aboard and welcome to our flock!

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

Like the others have said, how long a chicken lives doesn't depend on breed but on health. The average chicken lives 5-8 years. But any chicken can live longer if they are healthy and properly cared for.

Welcome to BYC!

You will find a lot of good information here. Keep on asking questions and you will get many good answers.

You may also want to read the FAQ below.

While some chicken breeds do not live long (e.g. Cornish X), most breeds can live quite long.
