How long does it take a chicken to lay an egg???

Like I know it takes 24 hours for a chicken to make an egg. But how long does it take a chicken to actually lay the egg??? I saw one of my hens lay an egg and it only took like 5 or 10 minutes....but maybe they where trying to lay it before I went in the coop.

Mine usually take 40 mins to an hour in the nest, but sometimes they'll be free ranging and then squat- and then the miracle. They'll sit in the nest for ages and then stand up, yell and PUSH when they know it's time. Poor girls.
