how long does it take chickens to start laying eggs?

i bought two chicks last year and it has been over 8 months and they still haven't started laying. They are either a red sex link or buff oporington i am not quite sure.
 
Pullets usually start to lay between 18 and 22 weeks of age. Some breeds do take longer, though. My Ameraucanas were 7 or 8 months before they started to lay, and my Barnevelders were about the same.
Are you sure you have girls?
