How long does it take for a new rooster to mate with hens?

Are your chickens laying eggs now?

If hens are laying eggs I’ve noticed a rooster be super interested after the stress of a new place wears off. I would say a week or two just to gauge off of something but like mentioned it could be more or less.

Yes, they are laying at the moment. :) Seeing how he slowly approaches them, I would say a couple more days and hopefully, he will go for it. :) Thank you for your replies!

I introduced my rooster back in November..had to give my mother 4 hens. These girls were beefy and would run after him whenever they saw him attempting to do his business with my leghorns. They were barred rocks and what I assume were black Orpingtons. It's hard to go about your business when you have four cockeral blockers 😁

Haha, that's a funny image. :D My hens seem to avoid the rooster for now, so hopefully they will be more open in the upcoming days. :)

My rooster “Roger” took less than 24 hours to mount my 9 month old hen . She seemed quite happy about it . He is a lovely boy so gentle and started looking after the girls immediately . He escorts them to the nesting boxes and waits for them at the door . I really never wanted a rooster but i love him 🥰

Oh, that is so sweet! My rooster has a great character as well - he is gentle and friendly, which is wonderful! I was a bit worried about rooster being too rough on the hens, but all seems very smooth and they really get along. They seem to have calmed down as well - no more bullying and quarrels between them, which is great. :)

A new rooster in a existing flock will be integrating with the flock. Takes about a month or 2 for the hens to respond to him. By the 3rd month you should see fertility in the eggs.
