After a cat has been vaccinated, how long does it take for those vaccinations to take effect?

I wanted to know because we're going to neuter our cat after he is vaccinated but were wondering whether we should wait a little while because the hospital he'll be neutered at often has cats in, even ferals. So we don't want him near cats that could possibly have something. Might the vaccinations take a few days to take effect or....?

You cat will have a lowered immune system and ability to fight off pathogens and disease for at least 2 weeks. I would wait 3 weeks, personally.
