How long does it take?

My chickens started slacking off on laying about a month ago, and are now down to about nothing. I put a light in the coop on a timer about a week ago, and was wondering how long should it take for them to increase laying. I have the 40w light coming on at 3:30 am and it gets dark around 5:30 pm if that makes any difference.

Fall means chickens, older chicken, sort of shut down. In my experience, the added light has the most effect if you had added it 15 minutes a day and accumulated that extra 4 hours over an 8 to 10 day period. But, give it time. Don't change anything now. I'd give it another week.

Of course, if they shut down to moult, you just have to allow that, it seems to me. Give them a good month to six weeks to accomplish that.
