So I just have a question regarding my new hens. I just got 6 hens 4 days ago and they all look pol age… just wondering do they take a while to settle in and start laying regularly? I’ve only had 2 eggs in those 4 days one I know is from the leghorn and I dunno about the other.

I’m worried I got duds lol

Can u tell I’m a nervous first time hen owner

Oh also I’m in Brisbane australia so it’s winter but our temps are currently around 10-22c.

In my experience, it's normal for hens to take up to 1-3 weeks to get settled into their new surroundings. I've had them start laying in as little as a couple of days and take as long as 3 weeks. The shorter days in winter will also contribute to fewer eggs because they need a certain number of sunlight hours to produce. I only had 1 hen that continued laying in my flock for a couple of months in winter here and I have very mild winters in Georgia.
