Hey y'all! I have 11 Red Sex Link hens. I've been reading tons of material and am getting mixed messages. Does any body know how long until they start laying? I've heard that sex links usually lay sooner than most hens, is this true?

Also, I'm about to put them into their new coop! Do I need the lay boxes ready as soon as I put them in, even if they're too young to lay?

Thoughts and suggestion appreciated!

It can depend on the breeds used to make sex links, but normally for hatchery sex links you are looking at 16-20 weeks. Once one pops an egg than they usually all start gradually. I would have the laying boxes in place if they are close, but make sure their roost is higher than the laying boxes or they quickly become sleeping and pooping boxes.

Good luck there is no feeling like that first egg.

@Makomd Thanks! So excited for the first egg! It's a long way off but so far the time has been flying!
