How long it does it take for a chick to internally pip?

Hi guys. A few hours ago, more or less 4 hours ago I candled my chicken egg. I saw a very small piece of the darkness in the egg fill the air cell and I suggested it to be an internal pip. Could someone correct me if I'm wrong? I'm not hearing any tapping, peeping or see any rocking. How long does internal pip usually take? I'm day 21

it sounds like you may have an internal pip! it can look like a triangle shadow shape as the beak is getting close to touching the egg shell. there can also be "shadowing" where the chick's body is sticking up into the air cell a little bit, and you can see that on candle. usually shadowing comes right before internal pip.

in my experience the internal pip usually lasts 12 hours and then the external pip happens. I run dry incubation 30-35% humidity. It could be up to 24 hours, external pip after internal pip.

after external pip, it usually takes another 12 hours before they begin to zip. zipping is usually quick, 30 mins or 2 hours.

during this time, important changes are still happening. the chick's abdomen is absorbing all the yolk, and closing over to form a navel, and absorbing all the veins and blood vessels. the absorption process starts when they begin breathing air for the first time, as they acclimate their lungs by internally pipping into the air cell.
