how long should cornish X eat chick starter

Not sure about how long should, but I just do it until they can eat other things. I have gone 2 weeks with cornish Xs and then introduced smaller grains, like wheat, rice and cracked corn and introduced greens at about that time also. The sooner I can get them on whole grains and grass, the sooner I will save on feed.
I recently started passing all my grains through a handcrank mill on a coarse setting and using that in place of started feed. I figure it cost about 30 cents a LB for starter and 10 cents a LB for whole grains and I figure starter is really a large percentage of grain anyway. Fortunately I haven't killed one yet.
Grass is free, except the trouble to collect and the chickens love it, so there...

I don't feed mine chick starter at all. I feed turkey starter and turkey grower. Don't have a set time to change. Maybe about three weeks? They eat a lot of it but they sure do grow.

I start mine on 24% turkey starter, then cut back to the 20% chick starter for the last 2 weeks before processing. The 24% helps prevent leg problems starting them out. Then dropping to the 20% is necessary for a better finish on them. (Cold weather will also make a less fatty bird.) I hate butchering fatty CX.

I get good weight gains and feed conversion ratio using this method.

I usually do 24% the first two weeks than drop to 20% to butchering but I goofed this year and got the wrong bag and didn't notice that it was only 20% until half the bag was gone.
