hey, how long should i leave my homemade incubator on till the eggs go in....24 hours is it ?

At least 24 hours. You want it on long enough so you can see how it fluctuates with them temp in your house from morning, noon, night, and the middle of the night. How ever long it takes you to figure this out is how long you need before you put eggs in it.
