How long should I let her sit for? Pleeeeease help!!!

I went to the coop to chck on chick progresses, but .... still nothing

I might need to candle the eggs tonight. What should I expect to see, aprt from being all balck? How will I tell if the chicks inside the eggs are still alive?
Momma hen is still sitting, very patiently. How long would she sit before giving up?

When my hen hatched out her babies, it took a week for them all to hatch.

I'd wait till day 30 just to be safe, but that's just me.

just look for any movement at all in the eggs you might even be able to hold ggs to ear and see if you can hear peeps

There's another one!!! Really a little brother or sister.

But... now momma left the nest

and there are still 3 eggs there. I tried to candle them but it's pretty dark. I can see the air pocket in one (the silkie egg) but not much in the other 2. I haven't hear anything nor see any movement. Can I put those 3 eggs in a foam box with a light on top so they stay warm? It is pretty warm outside here in Oz, over 30C. Do you think that will work? My last hen did the same and quit the nest after 3 babies hatched and I lost 5 eggs. I really want those ones to hatch, that is if they are alive.

congratz on the second chick, if the momma really left the next, not to just eat and poop but actually left, i dont see any harm and trying to keep the eggs warm, it might not work but if there gonna be lost anyways atleast you did what you could, also just keep your nose open for a smell from those eggs
