I have a coturnix quail that has struggled for three days to lay her first egg. She hasn't walked, taken a drink or eaten anything on her own since then. I have been giving her 45 minute long baths, I tried oil in both ends, massage anything i could find but she just isn't getting any better. How long will this go on before she goes on her own? When do I give up?

i can't. She has been pushing and pushing for days now, even making a whistling farting sound.

not eating or drinking? have you tried water injections under her skin for hydration? I held my waterer up to my hens face to drink eventually she did-whats makes you think its an egg?

It's her first egg, she's just the right age to start, she was inside the koop by the nesting boxes all day, she isolated herself, she's been straining to push something out. She has been making farting sounds and she's had a pasty bum. I don't really know. I'm so new to this, I just looked up her symptoms and they said egg bound or internal laying (with less of the internal symptoms) For some rreason she looks...crooked ...like she's leaning to her left side...her feet look fine but the other birds pecked her right wing a bit before I got to her. Very minor though.

she will drink a bit of the water while I soak her which is the only reason I keep going with it. It doesn't seem to help her loosen up

can you feel the egg on her bottom? have you tried to help push it down slowly in the tub? I new at this too but I think of olive oil aroud her vent and in it a little so it can slide out easier-hope you can feel it have you tried giving her treats to make her eat? scrabbled eggs

i put grape seed oil on the inside and outside with a syringe, it didn't seem to help. She HATED the eggs but I gave her some yogurt with a syringe (not the same one;) ) and she perked up for about 15 mins. Just in the last hour she's started thrashing her head side to side and her energy's gone. Thanks so much for all of this advice sonew123 it's really helping.
