I think you may be right--the yolk broke. Now, I remember looking in there and thinking that is some weird yellowish-green looking liquid in that egg. Plus, it still had a little part of stuff stuck to its "belly button". Being the first time I ever saw a newly hatched chick, I didn't know this was not normal.
Anyway, we went ahead and got them out earlier than I planned (4 in total) since I figured this one wouldn't last the typical 2-3 days since he didn't absorb all of the yolk. He's doing fine, just looks a mess
We're calling him/her "Crusty"....
