My chicks are about 2 to 3 weeks old and I was wondering how long until I can expect eggs? Also when is it ok to put them out in the coop for good. I take them outside to check things out when the weather is around 60 or higher. I have been giving them some treats(worms, and yogurt) also given them some sand. Any advice what so ever will be great. Thanks every one!

mine did not start laying until they were 22 and 24 weeks, I was anxious but no matter what, it's there time not ours. I was so impatient lol, now that I have 2 pullets comming I will know they will lay between July and August. My chicks that are hatching as i type will not lay until September or October, with the cold here early it may not be until spring next year. I have seen people on here who's chickens layed on the 18th week to 20th week !

Taking the chicks outside for the day is fine when they're that young, but for nights you'd best be waiting until they're at least 4 weeks old (night temps 60+) or 5 weeks (40-50). Until then, they don't have enough feathers to keep themselves warm. However you can put them out into the coop with a heat lamp.
Chickens can start laying eggs any time between 4 months and 6 months old sometimes even more. It depends on what breed you have.
