How Long to Give Fluconazole for Please?

This is from Plumbs Veterinary Drug Handbook, Sixth Edition:
"!!Birds:
a) As an alternate treatment of aspergillosis: 5 – 10 mg/kg PO
once daily for up to 6 weeks, with or after amphotericin B
(Oglesbee and Bishop 1994)
Monitoring
!!Clinical Efficacy
!!With long-term therapy, occasional liver function tests are recommended"

I would personally be reluctant to give it for that long without the advice of a veterinarian due to the possible liver toxicity. And I would also want to know definitely that I was treating aspergillosis.

Thanks so much.....unfortunately its not possible to take my duck to a vet. I live in Thailand and I doubt there are any bird specialists here. Its very difficult to find anyone knowledgeable about anything other than dogs or cats. Sigh. After a few days on fluconazole she is 95% better. If I stop the medication after 7 days then, is there something else I could give her to ensure she truly kicks this aspergillosis? (Ive had to diagnose her myself)

I don't know of anything else you could use.
Did you see post#5 where @coach723 found more dosing information? I too would be hesitant to treat for up to 6 weeks, but if you have no vet care and the medication is helping, I might would extend treatment for several more days. That would be up to you though, do some more research and weigh the risks/benefits to see if giving the medication longer would be worth it.
