How long to lay an egg

Some of my girls are quick about it, others have taken over 2 hours..lol.

A handful of my hens take several hours to come back out...they like to stay in and "admire" their egg.

I agree with the others. Most of my hens are in and out relatively quickly, maybe a half hour to an hour. Most of mine will also allow other hens in the nest with them, I often see three hens in the same nest with empty nests around. My nests are 16" x 16". But I had one specific hen that took about three hour each time and was a nest hog. She would not allow another hen in the nest to lay with her. Each one is different.

Yes, just started a little over a week ago

Mine haven’t shared a nesting box yet but I do have one that took atleast 2 hours today

Mine definitely like to lounge

My 4 birds line up. They have two boxes, but use one. I swear the waiting birds are cackling something like 'come on' to the one in the box.

I’ve got some girls that will wait and literally run into the coop at the very last minute and barely make it. Kind of like my grandson when he needs to potty.

Then some of my older girls will hang around in the nest box after they lay their egg. After I reach in and take their eggs they are like, “Dang, I guess she wants me to get out now!”
