How long to lay an egg

It depends on the chicken and how large her egg is.
I have some that are in and out in about 20-30 minutes. Others that take almost an hour, sometimes more.

Don't worry about it too much. If she's in there for hours and starts panting, it could mean she is laying a whopper of an egg or trying to pass a softie. Both of those take a lot of effort. One means you should be monitoring her more closely for a few days.

That happened to my Melody a week or two ago.
