How long to lay an egg?

I was wondering the same thing today, one bird takes literally HOURS to lay an egg, she sits in there forEVER, I mean even the other hens get pissed at her sometimes and just hop in there with her, grumbling and warbling the entire time. It must be normal because they kind of accept she's a box hog. Im serious on this, Ive often seen when one is laying, the others will literally wait 'downstairs' for her to be done and then climb in, this one, they just hop in and nudge her into the right side maybe a nip or two at her in the process, im thiking for the 'inconvenience' :p . Others typically are pretty quick maybe a half hour if they want to be picky, the one RIR Ive seen her in and out in ten minutes at times. Then there's midnight, .....I swear, it's like she's got a spring on that kanuten flapper, you come out with snacks, she'll suck that egg back in and be out and first in line every time :D

To answer your? I guess there is no time, some are slow, some are fast, but even the fast ones can take a while sometimes, and there does not seem to be any rhyme or reason to it either.

My uneducated guess, if they take more than lets say half the day, there might be a problem you need to look into.

Two of my three take about half an hour to an hour. The third is my "lounger," and will sit there for a couple hours sometimes. Interestingly, she is the low bird in the pecking order.
Wow, same here, the lounger is the shy one. Thank god mine really don't pick on each other really, but she is definitely the lowest in the pecking order. I wonder if there is any coincidenceor or causation besides just incidental correlation.?

VERY interesting.
