ok so one of my light sussex is laying her eggs in the nest box as she should be how long do they usually stay there she seems to sit there for quite a while before and after she has laid the egg.
i checked this morning she was in the nest box i thought about to lay an egg anyway i fed the others and she came out i went and checked but no egg so i left it about an hour an noticed she was not out in the run with the others when checked she was in nest box again and has been for atleat half hour.

how long are they using in the nest box to lay an egg?

15-20 minutes I'd say, ,,,,,,,,,,,,,she might be broody, or the beginnings of it???

One of mine does that every day... I hear the others raising cane cause they need to use the box. I am waiting for her to come out with a newspaper under her wing!

It's like going through labor, some are quick and some are for hours. Ha ha I like the newspaper one!

Good one!

And quite true. Sometimes "the process" takes longer than other times, eh?
