How long does a roo and hen need to be penned together to get a decent number of fertil eggs?

A well mated hen can lay fertile eggs for up to 2 weeks after the last mating - some people have even reported as long as 3 weeks but that is pushing the fertility rate to the max.

There are those that report fertile eggs begining the day after mating but you have to keep in mind if the hen and roo are new to one another she may not let him mate her right off. Some hens make a roo wait and earn the privilege.
