How long to quarantine?

Two to four weeks should do . Anything they have will show up in two weeks . What you really want to be concerned about is the wind . If you know that your chickens are healthy then you can put the new pullets down wind from them . If there is any question or doubt about either . You want to be sure that the wind can't carry from one to the other . If that make sense . For instance Mareks is spread by dander and can be carried on the wind . You don't want the wind to blow dust from one coop to another. Also you don't want wild birds to be able to fly into one coop and then be able to fly into the other . A total building enclosure is the safest method of quarantine .

A month is the usual minimum quarantine period. During that time, wash hands, change shoes and jackets between the flock and new ones, and check them out for lice and mites, and any signs of respiratory disease--watery eyes, nasal drainage, and noisy breathing or sneezing.

When you go to see the new birds, look around at how they are kept, if they are overcrowded, dirty, or if you see and any are sneezing or other respiratory signs. It is always safer to get day olds and raise them up yourself to prevent inheriting carrier diseases.
