How long to wait to eat eggs after antibiotics were given?

I can't believe how rude people are on here! Can the question just be answered? How many days should you wait before consuming your chickens eggs after they have finished their antibiotic?

Usually 3 weeks to be on the safe.

There is a difference between people who raise Thousands of birds, and cull lkill) sick ones, and people who have BACKYARD CHICKENS where they ARE part of the family and ARE pets. Ive had chickens for 20 years. Mostive in a huge coop you walk into, BUT thefe are a select few that CHOOSE to hang around people. If they choose to be near people instead of the coop, I let them. They have a coop near the house. I had a lavender orpington, that no matter what, hated being in the cooo, would lace back and forth and when she free ranged, she woukd walk up to the porch and at night I would catch her sleeping on the deck, and if you opened the door she woukd walk right in. I didnt mind. If I had thousands of birds, and some wanted to do that, well, so be it, these are backyard chickens after all...and most people on here woud rather save their beloved pet hen, then kill it, because it has the sniffles.

I had a 1 week old chick that almost succumbed to pasty butt. But i took it inside and washed her butt under warm water, then GENTLY massaged her intestines to bring out any more backed up waste. Never saw so much chicken poopy from one bird....this little chick survived, and it was really gross, having to do that..I had to work the backed up intestines 3 more times. People that raise thousands of chicks (not all pl but most) woukd have let it die. Not worth their time. I only have 145 birds, but I take care off each one, including a little chick like that., its good animal husbandry, and you shoukdnt just toss away a life because it is a hassle. Or because the other birds might get sick, them create something for sick birds.

I just found this report by the National Institute Of Health stating that eggs contain traces of doxycycline (DOTC) for 24 days after removal from treatment: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/2015932/

Maybe wait until after 25 or 30 days to be totally safe, depending on your specific medication though. The OTC was clear in a far shorter time.

Natural therapy is definitely the best, and no one can guarantee whether there will be residual antibiotics in eggs

It depends on what type of antibiotic but I believe the rule is 2 weeks after the last dose was given. I have in the past gotten kind of scared of antibiotics so we didn't eat the eggs for 4 weeks and that was from 14 hens, so alot of eggs went to waste. We ended up scrambling them and gave it back to the chickens...they of course loved it.

Wouldn't that give them back the antibiotics in there system? And only prolong you being able to eat the eggs
