I have this first time layer Ivy. I keep my flock free range and she ended up laying 16 eggs somewhere and i found it after she went missing and followed her to the nest and confiscated all of them and brought her home. She is broken and moved on. How long until i start getting anxious about lost eggs again?

Oh. First post. Been visiting and using for a year now. Started with 6 hens and a rooster December 2018. Now doing 1 rooster, 12 hens, 10 pullets, 2 cockerels. Happy to be a member

:frowHi, glad you're here!
:welcome Welcome to the family!
:loveI have a soft spot for broody hens, I would've just let her keep her clutch.
:popI absolutely love seeing a Mama hen & her little'uns running around!

Hi and welcome to BYC. Broodiness cycles vary, so keeping an eye on her is likely the best way to guage the duration of her broody cycle.

More generally, here are some links to useful resources:

Best wishes

Hello there and welcome to BYC! :frow

Going broody is hormonal driven and it takes a while for those hormones to calm down for her to start laying again. Each bird is different however in a few weeks she may start back up, possiblely waiting until spring. Chickens keep you guessing!

Good luck and welcome to our community! :)

She will likely not start laying for a while, for reasons stated in previous responses. Are you worried about ivy in particular hiding eggs again or just any hen from your flock?
