Welcome to BYC.
Chickens are flock animals, so one of the best things you can get Henry is a friend or two. While some folks maintain single birds as house pets, unless you are able to spend most of your waking hours with your bird it is better to meet their natural social needs.
We will need to identify the breed of your bird to give you some idea of the expected point of lay. A good general timespan is 20-28 weeks with a couple of weeks on either side as a safe +/- -- with some breeds taking even longer to mature. If you post a photo of your bird we can help you identify the breed.
Nest boxes are for our convenience. Hens will find a place to lay their eggs and do not "need a box to do so -- the boxes make those eggs easy for us to find and collect.
