I just felt safer. I know drakes will often kill the ducklings, but at that point I didn't have any drakes. One of the other hens was super interested in the ducklings and was chasing them and sort of pecking at them. I was told other hens sometime try to steal other hen's ducklings and the ducklings can get killed in the process. There were eleven plus two I added for her to foster so that's a lot of duckings to protect. But I think a lot of people don't separate them.
