How long?

I've been taking of a stray cat for my friend. Really sweet calico. But today she has gone into heat, don't worry she's inside and there are no boy cats around. How long will she be in heat? Can we fix her while she's in heat? And would it be easier for us to take her to the shelter to have her fixed and leave her there?

Cats are in heat more often then they're out of it. ( At least it seems that way). Actually it's every 2-3 weeks typically with it lasting about a week to ten days. Yes you can get her spayed while she's in heat. It's really up to you if you want to take her to the shelter or not. They may give you a discount on the spaying but that depends on the shelter.
