How loud is your Silkie roo?

I have the most adorable black Silkie that turned out to be a boy and he's just started crowing a couple off days ago. We are due to move into the city limits again in two weeks and I had planned to take that one with us.

I have heard that they are pretty quiet, but I wanted to check around and see what the consensus is.

Thanks!!

I love Silkies!

My roos are pretty quiet crow-ers- no louder than my hens when they get "bok-bokking" at egg laying time. The problem with roos, why there are ordinances against them, is they crow at any time of day or night- one of mine crows off and on all night long when the moon is out.

Some roos seem to crow more than others. I have one who crows almost constantly and another who crows maybe three times a day, never at night.

Mine wasnt so much loud as persistent....he crowed from sun up to sun down. All day, every day.

Notice that I am writing about him in the past tense?

He has been rehomed to someone who appreciates his noise.

i have 2 silkie and 2 rir roos. the silkies make me laugh out loud when they crow. they aren't as loud but they crow alot more. i think the rir get tired of hearing it and will kinda chase them and cut them off in mid crow. i'm sure that's not why the rir chase them, but it's still funny to see. good luck with your move

Mine started crowing at 13 weeks and got louder and louder as the month moved on. We had to rehome him so we didn't upset the neighbors.

Hmm. All good to know. I will have the chickens in a Catawba Converticoop tractor and can probably put a tarp over it at night to totally shut out the light so they don't crow too early.

The thing is, he started crowing last week and there's a Penedesenca roo in there with him too that started around the same time. In the past, when I've had two roos at once, when one crows, the other has to do it too.
I'm relieved that this doesn't seem to be the case with the Silkie. At 5:30 this morning when I went out to feed them, the Penedesenca started crowing his head off, and nary a peep from the Silkie was heard.

I know they change a lot as they mature, and he's only 6 months old, but I'm so hoping I just have a nice quiet guy. He's makes us laugh just looking at him. He's good to have around. Let's hope he stays quiet!

I've yet to hear a peep out of my silkie roo, who's over 6 months old. But I think if he did my 2 OEGB roos would knock the tar out of him

My silkies stay in their pen/run while the rest free-range, but if the 2 roos come walking by the pen my silkie roo runs in the coop and hides! Breaks my heart!
