Yes, they do.
So, ideally 2-5 acres a cow but if you're supplementing feed year round they'll be fine with less.Because they'll be producing milk I wouldn't just let them live off the land but supplement some feed.
Cows nowadays aren't like what they used to be and so can't survive on plain graze like the cows our parents and grandparents had.
They shouldn't be fat but thin, you'll see her ribs.

Well the question depends on where you live, what kinda feed your giving them, and how much hay they have access to. I read some where that a good rule of thumb is 1.8 acres per cow
