I’ve decided to give up standard sized chickens and do a full bantam flock this year. I’ve had one bantam in the past and she was lovely so I’m super excited about all the little ladies I’ll have running around.

My question is how many can I fit comfortably in a 4x8 coop? It has a very expansive 12x12 by 7 ft high run and I plan on letting them free range in the fenced in yard....if I find that they aren’t the fly away type. I heard bantams can really fly.

Previously I had 12 standards in the coop and that worked out beautifully for years, never any issue. Many thanks!

I'd allow nearly four sq. ft. per bird anyway, unless your run is predator proof and roofed for winter snows. More space never hurts!
What breeds are you getting? Bantams are great!

My run is like Fort Knox, and the roof is pitched and shingled. So far I have seremas, d’uccles, polish, Easter Eggers, old English, sebrights, one faverolle, Cochins, and a few mysterious breeds that could be crosses but so far I haven’t found anyone that can tell what they are. They look like sebright mixes maybe, I’ll post a few pics.

numbers 1,2, 3 and 5 were from a local that hatched them herself and said they are sebrights....well they have feathered legs. And number 4 was from TSC so no idea.
