How many jumbos can fit in a 7' x 20'' colony pen? the person i got the plans from says he puts 70-75 birds in a pen, but that sounds really over crowded to me, i know some say you have to see what works for your birds and that very true but im just wondering what is a good number for a pen that size? i want to see how many can fit in that colony pen because im thinking bout doing some re-modeling to the plans if i dont like the number of birds that can go into that cage.

no idea , im shure one of our quail gurus will though

i thought it was .75/sq ft bird?? If so that would make it..... 7 x 1 2/3 = 11.62 sq ft floor space so that would fit 14.525 quail comfortably?!

Feel free to check my math though... I have about an 8x2 and I house 14 in there... but it isn't a grow out pen, it is a breeder pen with all diff colors in for now

I have been told 1 sq. ft. per bird, but that is a generous gestimate in most cases. I have 4 jumbos in a 2 x 2 cage, and another 8 in a 2 1/2 x 3 cage. The bigger cage has way more room than the smaller one, yet judging by square footage, it should be more crowded. I think a bigger cage can house more birds than the recommended 1 per sq. ft. Your cage would be about 12-14, depending on how you see it. I would probably put more in it.
