Did you ever find out anything? I live in Vista and raised 6 Rhode Island Reds...they were beautiful. I live in a 1948 farmhouse on almost 1/2. The City made get rid of all but two. The neighbor said they made too much noise. Wondering how we could change the two chicken rule in Vista. So many other cities are allowing more? Thanks
Hi nansea42! That makes me really sad to hear! I called the city and they never returned my call. I called the ordinance dept. When did this happen to you? Maybe it depends on the zip code too? Which one are you in?
Hi ..thanks for answering. This happened about 2 months ago. I've had chickens for years but even though we live in an old property that used to be country..condos were built around us. Some one new moved in and called code enforcement every day. I had 4 Rhode Island Reds and 1 golden raised from babies...and 1 old 8 year old golden. So the jest of it is I had to give away my Reds. Broke my heart, I was so attached. But they talked a lot...now my old hen died so I am down to one. Think I have located a golden like the one I still have. They don't seem to be to noisy. Code enforcement came to our property...so no choice but to do what I was told. Makes me feel like moving even though we have been here for 25 yr. Ah Well....oh, we live in 982083.....again thanks for letting me vent.
That's really disappointing! People are allowed to have dogs that bark all day, but you can't have chickens that "talk?" Wow! The city of Vista needs to get their act together. We are the only ones in our neighborhood with chickens and we cleared it with the neighbors before we got them. Our girls are quiet too for the most part. Americaunas and Buff Orpingtons. How is your one girl doing by herself? I'm sorry you had to give yours away. :-(
I recently picked up a Rooster from A Gal in Vista and She had several breeding pen full of Chickens. She was in rural Vista, but I can say she had quite a few chickens. I didn't do a head count but I do think it depends on where you live in Vista. BTW Welcome.
Above is a good Southern California thread. It is pretty active and you might find someone who knows more about your local codes. There is also a group called California Poultry People on Face Book. It is a fun bunch of chicken loven folks.
