I'll give you a little info on your cat question. I have 4 outside cats. One of them is very wild and you can't even get near her. They are great at killing mice, moles, chipmunks, bunnies, and anything else they can catch. That being said, they don't bother any of our birds. They will lay outside the tractors and watch them play, we freerange in the evening and have not had any problems. I've had birds playing a foot away from cats, and the cats just lay there. I've never even seen on of them go into "stalking mode" on one of the chickens. I believe that if you keep them penned for a week or two to let the attack cats get used to them, then let them freerange for an hour or two in the evenings just so you can observe, you should be good. If you notice any problems, then you'll know that you can't freerange with your cats. Like I said, I've got vicious outside attack cats, and they never bother my girls.
