i have around 700-750 chickens i start hatching about january and keep 2 cabinet incubators going till about august i sell the pullets at local auctions and an outdoor flea market and i sell straight run chicks to a local feed store i feed out the rest of the roosters that i can't sell as chicks and butcher or sell them at auction . i keep 6 of my own layers so we have fresh eggs to eat All hatchng eggs are bought from another local couple who have a nice small flock
i feed chick starter for the first 3 weeks then i switch over to clean up feed from a local feed mill (they have a hole in a mixer and it leaks feed out onto a pile in the basement ) i get that for $100 a ton otherwise the cockrels would eat up any profits
i also have some other assorted fowl ,16 young turkeys , 40 young ducks , 15 mature coturnix quail and close to 400 babies, about 100 bobwhite chicks 2 goats 2 butcher calves and 40 meat rabbits and close to 150 young rabbits
i work a full time job and spend about 1 1/2 hours in the morning and an hour in the evening feeding watering and checking every thing
